You will have seen recent reports about the effects the current pension arrangements are having on secondary care waiting lists. Read the BMA statement. BMA council chair Chaand Nagpaul has written to the prime minister saying: ‘Current Government policy is driving doctors out of the workforce. The BMA has been working tirelessly to alert HM Treasury and the wider Government to the reality of losing large swathes of expertise from the NHS’s most experienced doctors at a time when the over-stretched service needs it most. Without the good will of doctors to cover waiting lists and rota gaps as well as extra sessions in GP surgeries, patients will suffer.’ Read the full letter here.
Quick update: last year, the Cameron Fund received applications from 173 individuals nationally and gave out £220,455 in grants, loans and Money Advice. A major new initiative to support actions to help prevent GP suicides is now also underway, funded by the Charity.

Following the announcements of the review of the NHS pension scheme arrangements, the BMA are asking doctors concerned by the impact of these tax measures to write, either for the first time, or as a follow up letter to their earlier representations, to their local MP. The BMA’s Annual Representatives Meeting took place 23-27 June at the ICC Belfast. The ARM elections were open to a number of committees – including GPC UK. Nominations were open to all BMA members. However, voting was only open to ARM delegates.
