Planned Junior Doctors Industrial Action

Many of you will have seen the announcement regarding the forthcoming Industrial Action that our Junior Doctor colleagues will be taking between Monday 13th- Thursday 16th March.

From our own perspective in General Practice, we can recognise the precarious situation that the Health Service is experiencing regarding workforce capacity, retention and morale. One of the outcomes of a crisis with Junior Doctors happening now, will be an even greater risk to the future numbers of colleagues coming into General Practice. It is therefore the position of Salford and Trafford, and Stockport LMC that the whole profession should support our colleagues.

This is a view shared by all the 10 Greater Manchester LMC’s who have prepared a joint statement – as per the attached document.

As Junior Doctors, our GP trainees will be involved in the industrial action during the above period. Practices should now start to adjust their clinical provision as appropriate to accommodate this altered availability on the affected days. There should be no impact to the delivery of core services given that our GP trainees remain supernumerary, and by allowing them to engage with the IA we will be signalling our support for their stance and sending a clear message to NHSE/DH that needs to be heeded.
