Primary care first contact practitioners (FCPs)

As you'll likely be aware CQC publish GP mythbusters and we'd like to draw your attention to one in particular this week.

GP Mythbuster 106

#106 describes the responsibilities for providers when recruiting and managing staff deployed in first contact practitioner (FCP) roles in primary care settings.

Whilst your Practice nor PCN  may directly employ the First Contact Practitioners, they are delivering regulated activity on your behalf. Therefore there is information CQC will expect to be able to review when they undertake an inspection.

This includes assurance that workforce employed or contracted through ARRS are:

1. recruited appropriately

2. operating within the limits of their capability, scope of practice and competency

3. they have received the  appropriate information, support and supervision to enable them to carry out their role.

If you have a shared digital space that you, your PCN and other providers use then one suggestion is that the required assurance documents could be uploaded and accessed by each and every practice whose patients receive care from a FCP.
