The rise in the number of cases of mumps being reported is now reaching the highest level in England for a decade. Health officials are urging people to have both parts of the MMR vaccine and outbreaks in universities and colleges raised the number of cases of the painful viral illness to 5,042 in 2019 - four times the number in 2018.
Most were in young adults who missed out on the MMR jab.
